Eclipse (mars) installation

Install Java 8 SDK :

root@ubuntu:~# apt-get -y install openjdk-8-jdk

Download Eclipse installer, then copy it to “/tmp” :

root@ubuntu:/tmp# ls -l eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wou wou 46198251 Mar 7 16:46 eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz

Uncompress this archive :

root@ubuntu:/tmp# gunzip eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz
root@ubuntu:/tmp# tar xf eclipse-inst-linux64.tar

Start the installation procedure :

root@ubuntu:/tmp# cd eclipse-installer

Open an X terminal (here we use X2Go with Mate desktop, logged as “root”), and launch the installer :

root@ubuntu:/tmp/eclipse-installer# ./eclipse-inst

Let’s continue the process….

When installation is complete, permit acces to “/root” :

root@ubuntu:~# chmod a+rx /root

Start Eclipse

Logged as a non “root” user, we open an X terminal (using X2Go with Mate desktop in our example), then launch eclipse IDE :

wou@ubuntu:~$ /root/java-latest-released/eclipse/eclipse
