From now, you can download RedHat enterprise Linux at no cost for developers !

Install VMTools using vSphere ISO image

Using vSphere Client :

rhel vmware tools

rhel vmware tools1

Within the virtual machine, mount this virtual CDROM :

[root@redhat ~]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
 mount: /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

This ISO image contains :

[root@redhat ~]# ls -l /mnt
 total 67745
 -r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 2011 Jan 30 2015 manifest.txt
 -r--r--r--. 1 root root 1850 Jan 30 2015
 -r--r--r--. 1 root root 67897195 Jan 30 2015 VMwareTools-9.10.0-2476743.tar.gz
 -r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 699332 Jan 30 2015 vmware-tools-upgrader-32
 -r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 769784 Jan 30 2015 vmware-tools-upgrader-64

VMware tools installation

Uncompress the archive in “/tmp” :

[root@redhat ~]# cd /tmp
[root@redhat tmp]# tar xfz /mnt/VMwareTools-9.10.0-2476743.tar.gz

“ifconfig” command is mandatory, so install “net-tools” (using our repo defined in this post : RedHat Enterprise Linux 7.2 : create your own repo) :

[root@redhat vmware-tools-distrib]# yum -y --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo="RPMs" --nogpgcheck install net-tools*

Execute the perl script :

[root@redhat tmp]# cd vmware-tools-distrib
[root@redhat vmware-tools-distrib]# ./

Go ahead with default options…

reboot the virtual machine :

[root@redhat vmware-tools-distrib]# shutdown -r 0

Great ! the tools are now up & runing :

rhel vmware tools3
