webmin is maybe the most popular Linux administration utility, so why don’t use it ?

We’ll install the release 1.76 from sourceforge (I used bitvise to copy this RPM from my Windows PC to my fedora virtual machine).

Install required dependencies :

[root@fedora22 tmp]# dnf -yq install perl perl-Net-SSLeay openssl perl-IO-Tty
Package perl-4:5.20.2-325.fc22.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.
Package openssl-1:1.0.1k-8.fc22.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.

Then install webmin :

[root@fedora22 tmp]# rpm -ivh webmin-1.760-1.noarch.rpm
warning: webmin-1.760-1.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 11f63c51: NOKEY

Webmin install complete. You can now login to https://fedora22:10000/
as root with your root password.

Is my webmin service working ?

[root@fedora22 tmp]# service webmin status
Webmin (pid 2053) is running

And listening on port 10000 ?

[root@fedora22 tmp]# netstat -ntulp | grep 10000
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2053/perl
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10000 0.0.0.0:* 2053/perl

We don’t want to configure the firewall at the moment, so just disable it by stopping the service :

[root@fedora22 tmp]# systemctl stop firewalld.service

Set the (webmin) “root” password (here : password)

[root@fedora22 tmp]# /usr/libexec/webmin/changepass.pl /etc/webmin root password
Updated password of Webmin user root

Use your favorite browser to open your webmin login page : https://my_fedora_server:10000

webmin works well, you are now ready to add modules and play the game
